Gaming With Purpose
In just 10 days, on October 25th starting at 8am CST Team Gazebo is going to be plunging into a 24 hour gaming marathon to help save sick kids via the Extra Life fundraiser. We’re very excited to be participating this year, and although it’s our first year doing Extra Life, that doesn’t mean we can’t start things off with a bang! We’ve already raised over half of our $1700 goal and have tons of great donated prizes to give away.
Thanks to our generous friends, family, and co-workers we’re off to a solid start, but now’s the time we need you, our fellow gamers, to chip in! We’re going to be playing plenty of PC games, board games, and of course, some Dungeons & Dragons for good measure. There is schwag to be won too, including a copy of the D&D 5e Monster Manual, Smash Up’s Big Geeky Box, PC games like Gauntlet, Chivalry: Medieval Warfare, and more!
Ongoing activities & Goals
Throughout the day you’ll be able to follow the Twitch.TV streams of myself and my co-captain Dustin Snyder (aka Wolfstar76) of Baldman Games. Also, if you want a double dose of awesome, watch the multitwitch so you can see us both at the same time! We’ll also be joined by my lovely wife DreadPixie and some friends who will be playing on LAN with us that day, we’re all raiding funds for Team Gazebo.
Each of us have personal goals, which you can see listed on our team page, and I know DreadPixie is going to try and beat me! Hopefully we both at least raise enough to get our Extra Life shirts so we can wear them during our first episode of the new and improved Dread Cast web show. Anyway, here are some of the ongoing activities we have for the day of the 25th!
- F bombs (or anything worse) – 25 cents
- Swear cantrips (shit, damn, ass, piss, etc.) – 10 cents
- Hell, and other words referring to male genitalia don’t count. Sorry.
During bouts of gaming, both Wolfstar76 and I are known to have potty mouths, we figured we should try and be on our best behavior since we’re doing this for kids, but in the event that we’re not…we’re going to pay for it. Literally, out of our own pockets.
Every time we catch ourselves swearing we’ll donate to our jars and pitch it into our fundraising total at the end of the night. If we don’t catch ourselves, call us on it! If you’d like to get us cussing up a storm, don’t worry, you’ll have opportunities to donate to mess with us during some of our games. Don’t worry, I’ll hit up the ATM before game day and be ready to lose all of my change…
The Live Stream Schedule
We are doing our streaming programming in 4 hour blocks this year, below you’ll find each one along with a drop down showing what we’ll be playing. Please note that the schedule blocks are an outline for what we’ll be playing and when we’ll be playing it, however that doesn’t mean these are hard-set in stone. Some of these games we’re going to play a little bit more or less depending on how the mood is flowing at the time.

630 pm – 8pm Say Anything (Gamer Edition) / King of Tokyo – Because blaming everyone around your for your own failure is always comedy gold

The D&D Adventure
I need you guys to help me build this adventure! During Extra Life I’ll be running a 1-2 hour fast and furious D&D 5e session and I want you guys to be able to get in on the action! This is the only fundraising bit that’s going to need to be done ahead of time, but a limited number of folks are going to be able to chip in and decide the fate of my PCs. The adventure will be a dungeon crawl for 5 level 3 pregenerated characters trying to escape terrors against the clock. By donating, not only do you get to feel great about bettering the lives of sick kids who need your help, but you also get to decide the fates and personalities of my player’s characters in said adventure!
[box]Donation Levels
- Creator ($10, limit 5)- Pick a PC. You choose the race, class, background, and name of one of the pregens that I create for my players.
- Shaper ($20, limit 5)- This is the double down option for Pick a PC, you choose all of the above plus their traits, ideals, bonds, flaws, and a unique item for them to start with (at your own creation or choosing). Make them as crazy as you’d like and my players will be forced to play them!
- Adversary ($10, limit 3)- Pick a Monster (no higher than CR 5, list of all monsters by CR is here) to be placed within the dungeon, if this is a lower CR creature I will place multiple for the appropriate challenge
- Archenemy ($15, limit 3) – Plot Twist! I will place a trap, NPC, special monster trait, or something else to your liking within the short dungeon crawl adventure.
- Nemesis ($25, limit 1) – I will incorporate the Deck of Many things into the adventure, each PC will have to draw a single card and face its consequences
To participate, simply click the Donate button below and then the “support me” button on my profile page and scroll down to “Other” amount (or pick one of the presets, donating extra is only going to help the kids!) and in the message box let me know what donation level(s) you’re choosing and either flag the message as private (just to me) or public and it will show on my donor page. Then, tune into the Stream on the 25th and see your mad creations come to life! I will update this portion of the blog post (as well as twitter) as options close up!
